Not a heck of a lot of sailing this month! Full-time work for David did not leave a lot of time for fun.

We kicked off the year though by hosting David’s brother Conrad and his family, and Colleen’s sister Jackie and her tribe for the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

As XTsea was located on the end of B-arm, we had an unimpeded view of the fireworks, and with the barge only a short distance away it was definitely one of the more impressive experiences!

After the festivities, we got the sleeping arrangements settled. There were 10 persons sleeping aboard which was pretty much full capacity but we managed. The light sleepers may have had trouble with the partying nearby which continued into the early hours.

New Year’s Day we went for a sail across to St.Kilda. We anchored just off Luna Park and tendered everyone across to the beach to head off for a walk. Josh felt it necessary to visit Macca’s for lunch (?!?!) but after grabbing some wasabi and soy from the supermarket we all headed back to the boat for sushi and wraps.

The sail back was great, with a bit of breeze filling the genoa and showing what it would do. Soon we were generating a fair bit of spray and Morgan and Josh enjoyed sitting on the tramps getting dunked.

The rest of the month XTsea sat dockside, but we did manage to make a few outstanding repairs.

  • Strengthened table top by adding an additional sheet of 12mm marine ply.
  • Secured table base by filling mount hole with mortar.
  • Installed Webasto diesel-powered heater (for hot showers when the motor isn’t used)
  • Recovered helm chair (thanks PJ!)
  • Replaced missing external window shades (PJ again)
